READING (February 3, 2023) — Berks County Community Foundation recently expanded its program team with the addition of two employees, Cindy Milian, and Emily Smedley. Cindy Milian joined the organization as the Health and Human Services Program officer, while Emily Smedley is the new Environment and Energy Program Officer.

Milian is a first-generation American-born Latina with over 20 years of experience working in a variety of culturally diverse environments in her previous role as a caseworker and supervisor for Berks County Children and Youth Services. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a concentration in psychology from the State University of New York at Albany.

As the Health and Human Services Program officer, she is responsible for developing and implementing public health and human services initiatives that will positively impact the community.




Smedley’s career has spanned eight years of educating audiences about social and environmental problems and managing the programs that keep impactful work moving. She will manage programs and grants that relate to the environment, land use, and neighborhood vitality. She also oversees the Metropolitan Edison Company Sustainable Energy Fund and is an advocate for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the community.

Smedley graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and digital media studies and a minor in marketing.
