READING (January 15, 2013) - Berks County Community Foundation is currently seeking applicants for 22 scholarship funds. To be considered, students must submit all required information to Berks County Community Foundation by the application deadline. Arrow International Scholarship Fund
These scholarships will support high school seniors who are Berks County residents who achieved high scholastic and personal development, demonstrated leadership skills, and plan to continue their education after high school at a four-year college or university. Strong preference will be given to applicants who are children, stepchildren, grandchildren, or stepgrandchildren of former or current Arrow International employees who were employed by Arrow International as of the date of the sale of Arrow International to Teleflex, October 1, 2007. Application deadline is April 3.
The Battle of the Badges Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is for high school seniors who are children of active police officers or fire fighters serving the City of Reading, or who are the children of retired or deceased police officers or firefighters who served the City of Reading. Students must plan to continue their education after high-school in a vocational - technical program or at a two or four-year college, university or trade school. Application deadline is April 3.
The Berks County Scholastic Athletic Trainer Fund
This scholarship was established for graduating seniors from Berks County high schools that contract with or employ an athletic trainer. To qualify, students must have participated in training for at least one sport for a period of at least two years during high school and intend to pursue a four-year degree in sports medicine at an accredited college or university. Application deadline is April 3.
Byron F. "Corky" Knoll Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund is for Berks County high school seniors who are going to college to major in Professional Turf Grass Management or Professional Golf Management. Application deadline is April 3.
The Carpenter Technology Retired Employees Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established for children of employees of Carpenter Technology (Berks County site) by the late Dan Kubacki, who retired from Carpenter Technology after 41 years of service. Application deadline is April 3.
Helen M. Clymer Scholarship Fund
An anonymous donor established this fund in memory of Helen M. Clymer to award scholarships to single mothers from Berks County who seek post-secondary education at a Berks County school. Application deadline is April 3.
Community General Hospital Foundation June A. Roedel Healthcare Scholarship Fund
The Community General Hospital Foundation established this fund with the guidance of the late civic leader June A. Roedel. The fund was transferred to the Community Foundation after her death and renamed in her honor. Scholarships are awarded to Berks County residents who plan to undertake or further careers in healthcare. Application deadline is April 3.
The Jim and Ruth B. Daley Family Fund
This scholarship supports Berks County residents who are continuing their education. The fund covers items such as living expenses, professional testing fees, books, childcare, transportation, tuition and other emergency needs. This award is not available to high school seniors. Application deadline is April 3.
Earl And Mary Redner And Gary W. Redner Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships for employees or children of employees of Redner's Markets, Inc. who will further their education as a full-time college student or graduate student. Application deadline is March 12.
The Diana M. Everson Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships for seniors who are children of employees at Zee Service Company, Berks County franchise, or alternatively, for seniors at Muhlenberg High School. Application deadline is April 3.
The Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund
This fund was established in memory of Howard Fox, who was a member of the Berks County Bar Association and an attorney in the public defender’s office at the time of his accidental death. Scholarships are awarded to Berks County residents entering their second year of law school. Application deadline is April 1.
Hispanic Center Scholarship Fund (Traditional and Non-Traditional)
This fund provides scholarships to academically talented Latinos in Berks County who are pursuing post-secondary education. Application deadline is April 3.
Matthew Kelly Epitome of Courage Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is awarded to a student who resides in Berks County and who suffers with Cystic Fibrosis. The recipient will continue to be courageous in his or her fight against Cystic Fibrosis while furthering his or her education at a 2-year or 4-year college, university or trade school after high school. Graduate school students may apply. Application deadline is April 3.
The Irv Noll Memorial Scholarship Fund
The fund will provide annual scholarships to benefit one or more seniors who attend one of Berks County's public or parochial high schools, and who will be furthering their education after high school, and have played on the high school's golf, basketball or baseball teams for at least 2 years. Application deadline is April 3.
The Greg Prosseda Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships for Berks County high school students who played on their high school’s golf team during their senior year. Application deadline is April 3.
The Reading-Berks Association of Realtors Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2003 by the Reading-Berks Association of Realtors to recognize outstanding graduating seniors from Berks County high schools who will be continuing their education in a business program. Application deadline is April 3.
The Seidel Family Scholarship Fund
Francis F. Seidel, II, established this fund to honor his wife and his son, Francis F. "Fritz" Seidel, III, who was a Dickinson School of Law graduate who died in a fire in 1991 with his son. Scholarships are awarded to current or former Berks County residents who will attend The Dickinson School of Law. Application deadline is June 1.
The Sweet Street Desserts Scholarship
This fund was established to provide scholarships to dependent children of Sweet Street Desserts employees. Application deadline is April 3. Contact the human resources department at Sweet Streets for an application.
St. Andrew United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarships for members of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, New Berlinville, PA who are high school seniors and whose scholastic record indicates success in education and who are furthering their education after high school as full-time students. Application deadline is April 3.
The Liz Martelli “Voices” Scholarship Fund
This fund was created in memory of former Reading Eagle Voices reporter Elizabeth Martelli to provide scholarships to Berks County seniors who wrote for Voices during high school. Application deadline is April 3.
The Officer Scott A. Wertz Memorial Berks County Scholarship Fund
This fund is named in memory of Reading Police Officer Scott A. Wertz, who was killed in the line of duty in 2006. The fund provides annual scholarships to graduating seniors who are children of police officers serving in Berks County or for players, umpires or children or grandchildren of players or umpires in the Reading Softball Association. Application deadline is April 3.
The Henry E. Williams, Jr. Memorial Golf Award
This award was established in memory of Henry E. Williams, Jr., who was a long-time golf professional and retired head pro at Moselem Springs Golf Club. The fund supports scholarships for Berks County seniors who will major in a professional golf management program, attend a PGA Club professional school, or who intends to play golf on their college team. Application deadline is April 3.

Berks County Community Foundation employees, board members and/or committee members are not eligible to apply for or receive a scholarship offered by Berks County Community Foundation, nor are their immediate family members. However, immediate family members are eligible to be nominated and recognized as the recipient of a scholarship, but without the financial award of the scholarship.
Immediate families include spouses, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, stepgrandchildren. The ineligibility period for Berks County Community Foundation board members or employees extends five years after board service or employment terminates. The ineligibility period for committee members who are not Berks County Community Foundation staff or board is in effect only during their term of service.
