The James A. Gilmartin Paramedic Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 to support residents of Berks County who are enrolled in the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences Paramedic Program. Recipients must have been an EMT or volunteered as an EMT for at least one year before entering the Paramedic Program.
The fund will annually award $5,000 in scholarships at various stages of the academic year for residents of Berks County enrolled in the Paramedic Program.
One scholarship of $2,500 will be awarded to an incoming student to the Paramedic Program who has financial need and who demonstrates the ability to succeed in the program based on admissions exam results and passion for the vocation. To be considered for this scholarship, submit an application between May 1st and June 1st. Applicants will be notified in July.
Other scholarships will be awarded at the end of each trimester – scholarships of $900 for the spring and fall trimesters and a scholarship of $700 for the spring trimester – to the Berks County resident who achieved the highest GPA in the Paramedic Program for that trimester. No application is required.
