To protect children from abuse, updated regulations went into effect in Pennsylvania on Dec. 31, 2014. The regulations expand the categories of people who are considered mandatory reporters due to their jobs. The regulations also expand the scope of when mandatory reporters are responsible for filing reports.
In addition, the regulations increase the number of clearances necessary as part of background checks for employees who work with children and set a 36-month renewal period for both employee and volunteer clearances.
State officials are encouraging organizations that work with children to review the regulations and seek the advice of legal counsel to determine any changes they may need to make to ensure compliance. In all, 23 pieces of legislation were changed with this update.
