We recently awarded three grants from the Berks County Tennis Fund to programs that teach kids how to play tennis. The instruction in each program emphasizes tennis as a sport that builds confidence and character as you compete against your own personal best, play with a partner, and compete against your opponent.
The grants were awarded to the City of Reading (COR) tennis program, which has engaged hundreds of children in the city over the years through its daily summer tennis program; Conrad Weiser Tennis Association, which is running a program similar to COR in that part of the county, and South Mountain YMCA, which is incorporating tennis into its summer day camp program at Camp Bynden Wood.
As you travel around Berks County this summer, keep an eye out for kids learning how to play tennis – chances are you’ll find them! And if you run a summer tennis program in your part of the county, mark your calendar for next February when the next round of grant applications will be available.
