We took a tour of the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in 2017 with PEEC Executive Director Jeff Rosalsky. In this photo, Jeff is telling us that the big ball on the roof over there is made of water bottles, which will take 500 years to decompose. The solar panel next to him is a solar cell phone charger that campers use. It’s built to be indestructible.
We took the tour in part because the Metropolitan Edison Company Sustainable Energy Fund, which is administered by Berks County Community Foundation, awarded a grant of $25,000 in 2015 that was used to retrofit three housing units on the PEEC campus with sustainable energy technologies, including solar and wind-turbine generated power. More info on that project here.
