Dave is a senior fellow who coordinates a series of programs featuring organizations and initiatives that have the potential to impact our community.
Continuing something he started for the Berks Alliance, these Spotlight programs and Community Forums have proven to be an engaging opportunity for the residents of our region.
Immediately before joining the Berks County Community Foundation, he served as the Executive Director of the Berks Alliance, a collaboration of the anchor institutions in Berks County, formed to serve as a catalyst for community development. Among the accomplishments of the Berks Alliance was a report about the restoration of passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia and beyond. This study ultimately led to the creation of the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority.
Prior to taking on the role with the Berks Alliance, he was the founding Director of the O’Pake Institute for Ethics, Leadership and Public Service at Alvernia University. The O’Pake Institute partnered with the Community Foundation to launch a series of nationally recognized Vital Signs reports about Berks County. A resident of Reading for the past twelve years, he has served with a number of community organizations, including BCTV and Reading School Board, the Reading Muhlenberg CTC Board, the Reading Public Museum and Tec Centro Berks.
Before moving to Reading, Myers served as the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Board at Bucknell University. He has held several senior leadership positions in the Pennsylvania state government, including Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Assistant for two of Pennsylvania’s Governors. He served as a Deputy Secretary for two state agencies and as the Deputy Executive Director of a statewide healthcare association.
Over his career he has served on numerous local, county and state boards, including another local school board and an area vocational technical school, a hospital board, two planning commissions, and the boards of a local community college and the State System of Higher Education.
His wife, Cathy, is also active in the community. They are the parents of two sons, Daniel Myers and Kevin Schneck, and two daughters, Elisabeth Myers and Jessica Myers. They have four grandchildren. Myers is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Massachusetts.
