Berks County Offers Unique Urban, Rural, and Suburban Lifestyles
When people care about the place they live, they really care. We manage several funds created by local people to ensure the neighborhoods they loved continue to thrive.
- Boyertown Charitable Program
More than a dozen funds benefit the residents of the Boyertown area, supporting local community, safety and recreational organizations and helping students go on to college. - Governor Mifflin Area Charitable Program
Judge Russel Hiller created a fund in his will to provide grants in the area served by the Governor Mifflin School District. Many of the programs bring special experiences to local children. - Sacred Places Project
Berks County Community Foundation is collaborating with Partners for Sacred Spaces, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that brings people together to find creative ways to maintain and make the most of America’s older and historic houses of worship. These buildings have been vital cultural vehicles that have helped knit the fabric of our cultural heritage for generations. It’s important to preserve the contributions that are being made in the community.
We turn initiatives into action.
With the help of community partners and committed volunteers, we take what we learn and put it to work through specific programs.

Sacred Places Project
A program of Berks County Community Foundation
We worked to catalog all of the churches in Berks County, starting with the City of Reading. With the help of interns and Partners for Sacred Places, we inventoried hundreds of purpose-built religious buildings in Berks County.
