Grants support United Way of America affiliates in the former National Penn Bank’s trading area, as it existed prior to November 30, 1990, and capital campaigns.
The Margaret B. Moeller Fund for Alzheimer’s Home Care Companions provides grants for families in the Boyertown Area School District with members who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia to obtain the services of in-home care companions, aides or other providers of respite care.
The fund was created to help families who are not eligible for any other form of reimbursement for such services. Grants generally pay for several days of care for a specified period of time.
Jess’s Sunshine Fund provides financial assistance to families who are Berks County Residents with dependent adult or minor children who have special needs arising from a long-term catastrophic illness or injury. Preference will be given to residents of the Boyertown Area School District.
Jess’s Sunshine Fund was established on February 20, 2001.
It is named in memory of Jess Schaeffer, former manager of the Boyertown boys’ basketball team. Schaeffer used a wheelchair due to complications from Langerhans cell histiocytosis, a rare type of cancer.
Grants support Boyertown-area health, social, recreational and safety organizations, in memory of Daniel and Blanche Boyer.
Distributions from this fund may be made for the acquisition, training, and ongoing maintenance of the K9 Unit for the City of Reading Police Department.
