Monica oversees the team that manages the Community Foundation’s grantmaking and community programs.
In her role as the Community Foundation’s Vice President for Programs and Initiatives, Monica has supervisory responsibility for a broad range of important functions within the community foundation and leads the program team. Monica develops and tracks the strategy for a wide range of initiatives and oversees the grant distribution process for a portfolio of charitable funds.
Before she was promoted to her current role, Monica was the first Program Officer at the Foundation, where she managed a portfolio of health and human services funds. In that position, she led health initiatives such as addressing children’s oral health and served on the Berks County COVID-19 Health Advisory Panel.
Prior to her employment with the Community Foundation, Monica worked for State Senator Judy Schwank’s office, where she specialized in health and human services issues, coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies. In this role, she participated in community boards and social change initiatives in Pennsylvania’s 11th senatorial district.
Monica was a supervisor for over a decade at SSRS, a market and opinion research firm where she cultivated a strong foundation in research methodologies, project management, and client management. Clients included organizations such as ESPN, The Pew Research Center, CBS News, New York Times, and The Kaiser Foundation.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in French from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and earned a Master of Public Administration from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She also completed an Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Monica is bilingual, fluent in Spanish and English. As a native of Reading, Monica understands the needs of the community which fueled her interest in philanthropy in Berks County.
