The Wendell Yoder Education Award Fund was established in 2015 to honor the founder of Wexcon, Inc., Wendell Yoder. Wendell founded Wexcon, Inc., a water, sewer, and utility line construction company located in Mohrsville, PA, in 1988. The company currently has approximately 55 employees. Wendell values the traits of trust, loyalty and honesty. His Christian faith is important to him, and all of his decisions are faith based. He has always taken pride in training and equipping his employees in order to assist them in gaining personal growth.

This fund will provide annual awards. Those eligible to apply for and receive awards are the children, grandchildren, stepchildren, or step-grandchildren of employees of Wexcon, Inc. or its successor. In order for the students to apply, the employee must be an active full-time or part-time employee of Wexcon, Inc. or its successor at the time the child, grandchild, stepchild or step-grandchild applies for the award. Applications are to be completed by the student, not the Wexcon employee.

Up to three awards may be given annually, one to each age category. Applicants will be required to submit an essay on “What does loyalty mean to you?” Annually, the topic of the essay will rotate between trust, loyalty and honesty. Each category is not guaranteed to receive an award each year — only the most impressive essays will receive consideration. Award recipients are only eligible to receive one award in each age category.

Essays will be evaluated based on the current school year of the student. Judging categories are as follows:

  1. Fifth grade through eighth grade
  2. Ninth grade through 12th grade
  3. Current college student (undergraduate only)
