Daniel C. Kubacki Sportsmanship Award

In 2004, friends of Daniel C. Kubacki established The Daniel C. Kubacki Sportsmanship Award Fund of Berks County Community Foundation to help honor their long-time friend Dan. Dan is a 1935 graduate of Reading High School and a veteran of World War II. He worked at Carpenter Technology until his retirement in 1981. Dan also was an avid sports fan; he spent 43 years as a PIAA official where he was involved in officiating baseball, football and basketball as well as several college and prep school leagues. In Dan’s earlier years, he played a variety of sports on corporate and club teams. Dan passed away in 2007.

The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual monetary award to a graduating senior of Reading High School who has demonstrated the quality of sportsmanship through his or her involvement in sports at Reading High. The recipient should be someone who is involved in an athletic program in any capacity. This would include an athlete or someone in a support role to make an athletic program possible, such as but not limited to a team manager, school mascot, cheerleader, umpire, referee, or scorekeeper. The recipient should be considered an ambassador of true sportsmanship. The recipient does not have to be furthering his or her education after high school.

No application is needed. This scholarship is awarded by a committee at Reading High School, with consideration given to all Reading High School seniors.
