Wallburga E. “Wally” Weber received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Gettysburg College in 1963. Wally started her master of arts degree in teaching at New York University while working at Pfizer Laboratories in Brooklyn, NY. She began her cherished lifelong career as a science teacher at Brooklyn Friends School while she was completing the last two years of her master of arts degree in teaching. After the birth of her daughter, she became a stay-at-home mom for 10 years, working off and on as a tutor, teacher at RACC in the evening, and interim science teacher in the Wilson School District. In 1978, Wally began her 30-year span of teaching chemistry at Conrad Weiser High School. Beyond her classroom, she was dedicated to her students in countless ways, including serving as National Honor Society faculty advisor. Quite simply, Wally loved her students and was born to teach. Wally was also an avid traveler, gardener, and devoted grandmother. Wally passed away in 2013 at the age of 71. This fund was established by Wally’s family to honor her memory.
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from Conrad Weiser High School who will be pursuing a degree to be a school teacher. Preference will be given to applicants who intend to teach in the field of science: biology, chemistry or physics; but all aspiring teachers are encouraged to apply.
In order to apply, applicants must have achieved a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or above. Recipients will be selected based on outstanding academic performance (especially in science classes); community involvement; and extracurricular and co-curricular activities during their high school years, giving preference to applicants who are members of the National Honor Society.
